THE OWNERS
In May 2017 East Kimberley tours management was taken over by Freshwater Quality Management (FQM), a local Kununurra business run by Michael and Kate McConachy. With local owners the integrity of the business remains essentially “Kimberley”.
With more than ten years of life and learning in the Kimberley, FQM feels privileged to lay open the treasures and tell the stories of the many wonderful things you see on tour with us.
We want you to experience the unique nature of the area, understand its environmental and cultural significance, and appreciate why we need to conserve it for future generations. And we’ll explore any way we can to make that happen.
We aim to deliver a sustainable form of ecotourism to an extremely remote area, with eco-certified results. We work with other Kimberley tour operators to keep our choices fresh, and handpick our team to make every great adventure memorable.
THE PIONEERS
Paul Wainwright (from the pioneering Wainwright family) and his dad Bob traversed the East Kimberley for years before tours were even possible, along the way making several significant discoveries and forging lifelong ties with the land and its people.
Having ‘gone for a bit of a look’ after hearing about it in 1983, upon his return Paul Wainwright secured a Safari Licence to commence tours of the Bungle Bungle. It was a life-changing moment for him.
What began as a 2 or 3 day camping tour from Warmun (Turkey Creek) in the 80’s has grown into a multi-faceted, multi-award winning business that offers fly/drive tours as well as accommodation options within World Heritage Listed Purnululu National Park.
