Jeanne Barnes

Jeanne Barnes is a Kununurra-based artist whose vibrant watercolours celebrate the natural beauty of the Kimberley region. Born in South Africa and trained in fine art and jewellery design, Jeanne brings a unique texture to her paintings by incorporating materials like gold leaf, ochres, and even raw diamonds. Her work often features iconic boab trees, native wildlife, and dramatic landscapes, capturing both the spirit and colour of the outback. Jeanne’s art has gained recognition across Western Australia and internationally, with pieces held in collections around the world.

Artlandish Gallery

Artlandish is home to over 1,000 genuine artworks by Indigenous artists from across Australia, with a special emphasis on natural ochre masterpieces from the Kimberley. Wander through a dynamic showcase at their gallery in Kununurra, from timeless dot paintings to bold contemporary creations, all sourced directly from artists, art centres, and respected community curators.

June Peters

June is a Gija artist from Mandangala Community, born at Texas Downs Station in 1962. Raised by respected Elders, she was mentored by renowned ochre artists including Jack Britten and Madigan Thomas, and is the niece of Rover Thomas. Her richly textured works reflect Dreamtime stories and the vast Kimberley landscape, combining Warmun-style ochre with fine detail and occasional acrylics. Exhibited in galleries across Australia and overseas, June’s art continues a powerful family legacy.

Charlene Carrington

Charlene is a third-generation Gija artist from Warmun community, celebrated for her evolving ochre style and deep cultural storytelling. Born in Perth in 1977 to international artists Churchill Cann and Sade Carrington, Charlene began painting at a young age, blending her mother’s delicate linework with her father’s rich ochre techniques. Her art draws on the Dreaming stories of Texas Downs, passed down by her grandmother Betty Carrington, uncle Hector Jandany, and other revered Elders. Influenced by legends like Queenie McKenzie, Jack Britten, and Rover Thomas, Charlene honours tradition while adding her own dynamic voice to the legacy of Kimberley artists.
